Overview: The workshop will focus on current corporate reporting issues in the UK including accounting convergence and business reviews. Recently, there seems to have been a shift in US sentiment in favour of IFRS which may impact the future direction of travel regarding convergence. Additionally, the Transparency Directive is having an impact on the UK reporting landscape. Using real examples, this session will examine the implications for corporate reporting practices within companies and the role of the directors in overseeing these changes.

Amongst the areas the workshop will address are:

• The future direction of travel as regards accounting convergence
• Developments in IFRS, in particular:
  • IFRS 3 (Business Combinations)
  • a brief reminder on IFRS 8 (Operating segments)
  • the amendment to IAS 1 (Capital Disclosures)
  • proposed financial presentation discussion paper (re format of income statement, etc).
• The impact of the Transparency Directive on corporate reporting throughout the year
• Narrative business reporting for quoted companies – what quoted companies are currently doing
• Reporting on sustainability – now a mainstream issue.
